#CWPLeader February
The Teacher Consultants we celebrate in February are K-college educators who inspire writers and readers in an interconnected world. As you read their profiles, one point of interconnection for them and their students becomes clear. Every one of them believes in the importance of creating communities of writers for inspiration, learning, and that all-important writers’ interconnection.
These teachers credit their writing experiences in the institutes and programs of their local Writing Project with helping them understand the importance and necessity of writing that builds, creates, and connects a community. They have taken those lessons learned and recreated them for students, and no matter if they teach Kindergartners or college students, they nurture their students’ trust and confidence for sharing and going public with their writing. And these teachers write with their students to model participating in a community of support and growth.
They share this belief: “Writing, especially when we know the writing will be shared with others, promotes both deepened understandings and meaningful interactions—and these develop community, which leads to improved learning conditions.” (Deborah Dean and Adrienne Warren: http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/download/nwp_file/16994/Informal_and_Shared.pdf?x-r=pcfile_d)
Congratulations and thank you for all you do for students, your colleagues, and your Writing Project.
